Evening Visit
Plus Drinks and Nibbles
Wednesday 20 May 2026
6.00 - 7.00pm
OpenStar is a fusion energy startup. Fusion is the same process that powers our sun and all the stars in the universe. It's an extremely powerful source of energy that produces no long-term waste and has no risk of meltdown. The catch: it's notoriously difficult to facilitate on Earth.
OpenStar is one of around 50 private companies globally developing machines that are capable of facilitating fusion reactions to yield base-load electricity. Of these 50 or so companies, OpenStar is the only company developing the levitated dipole concept. When visiting our facility, you'll see our fully commissioned prototype device, Junior, that has shown the world our unique and unmatched capabilities.
It's totally okay to have minimal knowledge of their work - that's what they are going to show us! Any and all questions are welcomed on the visit, and they will do their best to answer them.
Registration: Please register yourselves by Sunday 17 May 6pm so we can let them know how many people are attending and so they know how many to cater for. You are welcome to bring a guests if you wish - but you maust register them.
Cost: Please also bring $15 cash per person on the evening to cover the cost of drinks and nibbles.
Parking: Please park on the street, not in the carpark. All spots are reserved and their neighbours can get a but cranky when their spaces are stolen !!!
Helpful info: Closed toe shoes required.
Looking forward to seeing you at this interesting evening. Remember there is no morning meeting.
Dont forget to register - best do it now

Jul 12, 2026 1:00 PM - 3:30 PM
Let’s plant more trees! Sunday 12 July - 1pm to 3.30pm Please join us for our annual tree planting on Sunday 12 July at 1.00pm with The Friends of Tawa's Bush Reserves for our eighth year. We’ve already planted over 5200 trees in total! This year we will be in Caribbean Drive Reserve (Tawa) a bit further up than last year so there will be a bit of walking from where we park our cars to get to site. Tree planting regenerates our native Bush to provide habitat and food for the increasing numbers of native birds, provides walking areas for us all to enjoy, and helps slow down climate change. This is open to everyone including family and friends so please invite lots of people to help. Interact and Rotaract members are very welcome to join us so please let them know about this opportunity. You don’t have to be super fit to join. There are many jobs you can do such as: digging holes; planting trees, setting out trees for planting, picking up the tree packets for reusing, and / or contributing to the afternoon tea. If you would like to take part, please accept this invitation by Monday 22 June and provide your contact phone number and email address. Also advise details for family and friends attending. Lisa King is coordinating the Club’s participation and can be reached on 021 265 6220 or email lisaandmalkingnz@gmail. Lisa will be in touch with further details toward the end of June. Postponement date will be the following Sunday. See you there Lisa |
