Disaster Relief for Ukraine

Rotary International Logo PNG Transparent & SVG Vector - Freebie Supply

You CAN help, by making a donation.

Rotary International’s* Disaster Relief programme is actively assisting the people caught up in the appalling atrocities happening right now in Ukraine. The programme is providing relief to refugees and other victims of the crisis including items such as water, food, shelter, medicine, and clothing.

You can donate through the Rotary Club of Port Nicholson’s Charitable Trust.

We have had a fantastic result so far with more than $3,500 donated towards our goal of $5,000.  Donations have come in from ex members of the club as well as current members.  It would be great to get a final burst before the end of March (final date to get your tax rebate for this financial year)  and get over the target.

Remember that a $150 donation only costs you $100 - less than a night out at a restaurant, or 4 tickets to see the Phoenix play in their first home game in over a year.

Make your donation to bank account 03 0502 0407484 00, with your name and “Ukraine” as the reference

All donations over $5 will get a tax receipt. Send your name and email contact address to Peter Whittington at syrahnz@gmail.com.

*Rotary International’s Foundation is a highly reputable Charity renowned for taking action, not just talking, and is extremely efficient in the management of the funds it collects for projects – over 90% of funds go to the projects.

 This week...

 We're having our Club Forum
for members only

Club Forums are an opportunity to share and hear thoughts, feelings and ideas about how our Club is run.

Do you feel that your ideas shared in the club survey haven't been acted on? Do you want to suggest a new charity the club could consider working with, or raising money for? Are you downright angry with one of our processes and want change??
This is the time to share these thoughts!  Please come along, and voice your opinions. This is an opportunity for us to learn from each other and grow our club to be even better than it already is.

Waitangi Markets

With the changes in Covid rules announced this week we are no longer required at the Waitangi Market. The council has advised that we don’t need to provide people after today! A huge thank you to the regulars who kept this service going: the club appreciates your efforts.

We will be in the ballot to resume normal carparking duties along with other clubs and organisations. Dates to be advised.

MISSING HI VIS

While Neon is particularly fetching as we move into Autumn, would the culprit who has accidentally swiped our third hi-vis vest please return it?

Job Vacancy

The highly sought after role of RCPN Club Secretary is up for grabs!!

Please contact Dawn if this is something you are interested in.

Are especially keen to receive tinned soup and spaghetti at the moment (though I am sure they would be willing to receive beans and other tinned items too...)

Zoom - Zero?

On Sunday 3 April at 7pm a "how to use zoom"  practice session is being run for those who are unfamiliar with this technology. Contact David for more info or to see a Youtube video about this first. Click this link to join the zoom meeting

Let’s plant trees to help our planet!

The Rotary Club of Port Nicholson have teamed up with The Friends of Tawas Bush Reserves to plant trees at the Tawa Bush Reserve on  Sunday June 12th at 1pm.

Our goal is to build on what we have done in the four previous years and continue planting native trees in Tawa.  This is helping to regenerate our native Bush to provide habitat and food for the increasing numbers of native birds, to make lovely walking areas for us all, and to help slow down climate change.  Everyone is very welcome including family and friends.  Interact and Rotaract members are also very welcome to join us!  We had a huge turnout from Interact last year and together we planted nearly 500 trees in record time!  We ran out of trees before planting our 2,000th tree.  We will achieve that this year and many more.

If you would like to take part, please contact Lisa King (landm.king@xtra.co.nz or 021 265 6220), Community Services Committee, who is a also member of The Friends of Tawa Bush Reserves and coordinating our Club’s participation.   Let Lisa know your mobile phone number and email address so she can send you further information about the tree planting and also contact you if we need to defer the tree planting for any reason.   Thank you for helping us with this important initiative.

Member Profile: Greg Main

Kia ora, I am a newbie to the club so I have a lot to learn! As a finance person I am good with numbers, writing and analysing but also have other skills so throw me in the deep end and I will try and work it out or find someone who can help. I live in Upper Hutt with my wife and four kids.

From the President..

Apologies for being missing in action this week. My wife Ann tested positive for Covid on Sunday, so as household contacts, my son Alexander and I have been also isolating at home this week. Rapid Antigen Tests on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday all proved negative for Alexander and I, so if we have another clear test on Sunday we will be released on Monday – yay! As I am normally working from home, its been a normal working week for me, but we have used on-line grocery shopping and made the most of our Netflix subscription! Alexander is keen to return to school and his friends, as he’s had enough of dad! Ann, although bored is being waited on hand and foot through her recovery.
