A big thank you and our appreciation go to Heather for organising a most successful Christmas party at Bella Italia on Thursday. The evening was great fun and enjoyed by all. The food was delicious and abundant, and everyone was in excellent spirits, we even have the photos to prove it.

Thank you also to all those who gave gifts most generously to the House of Grace. Bev managed to collect two large suitcases of various items which we will donate to the House nearer to Christmas. If you missed the party and would like to donate, you have an opportunity at our meeting on the 4th of December.

I attended a Wellington Presidents cluster meeting on Monday. It is always interesting to learn what other Clubs in our area are doing but sadly some of the Clubs in the District are having challenges, and the figures are sobering:

71% of Clubs have negative or no membership growth

While it is improving the gender balance for 9940 is 25% women

The District has lost 237 members over the last 5 years

The good news is that many activities are in place to reverse this trend. However, the data just reinforces the need for Rotary to change our offering and attract a younger demographic.

On that note, the Rotary Club of Wellington commissioned a study by Victoria University MMBA (marketing) students to provide their views and thoughts on what RCW need to do to position themselves as an enduring service organisation. The report makes interesting reading and if anyone would like a copy to let me know.

Over the next couple of weeks, I will share some of the conclusions, findings and recommendations, as I believe we can all learn from this study

Have an excellent week

David

PS

Did you know that as Rotarians we have access to many special rewards and discounts at major retailers such as Amazon, Harvey Norman, also hotel and travel companies etc. Many of these companies also provide a “give back to Rotary” in their price. All this can be found at the Rotary Global Awards page on rotary.org see link below

Parking at the Market on Sunday
Good on the Council to take just $100. Over $400 is good money for us, and makes the effort of members worthwhile.
Thanks to all who took part

Buy your Christmas wine and HELP END POLIO

Fundraising opportunity
Through Peter Whittington District 9940 has been offered a fundraising opportunity for the End Polio campaign.

The offer is for a cancelled export order of very high quality Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.  Rotarians and friends can buy the wine at $144.00 per case (of 12).  $24.00 of that price will go to End Polio.  This is a quality wine, destined for some of the best restaurants in London and the wider UK.  There is a limited quantity available.

Port Nicholson is backing the project and have committed to take 10 cases:

  1. Peter Whittington will coordinate orders for Port Nicholson members.
  2. For delivery direct to your door, a minimum order of 10 cases is required, otherwise we will arrange for you to collect your order from a central point.
  3. Orders should be emailed to Peter Whittington, syrahnz@gmail.com,
  4. Orders close 15 December 2019.
  5. Once the order is received an invoice will be issued, and once payment is received there will be a credit of $24.00 per case issued, to End Polio.
If you have any other questions contact Peter by email or phone 021 778300.
