We had a wonderful evening to mark our 30th Anniversary, the reception was a great success and it was good to catch up with so many past members. Hosted by Mayor Justin Lester we had over 80 guests attend including Assistant Mayor Jill Day, City Councillors, distinguished guests such as Melissa Moon, our Rotaract and Interacters and of course, Rotarians past and present.
A big thank you goes to Howard, Anne, Darryl, Paula and Sue (for her photos) for all the work they did to organise and run the evening. Also, to Bill who’s brainchild it was and whose connections made it happen. Also a big thank you to Peter for arranging the dinner at Hudson. The food and the evening was most enjoyable.
The event was tinged with sadness at the passing of Ian Paterson, a wonderful Rotarian and a truly wonderful human being. As I have mentioned in my email, Ian’s funeral is on Tuesday 6th of August at 2pm at St Paul’s Cathedral.
The one major oversight of the evening was that I should have announced our 30th Anniversary Poem Project. Dawn has been working with the Wellington City Council and TAG and has gained approval to announce that we are planning to have a poem in both Te Reo and English placed on the harbour front or environs in recognition of our 30th anniversary.
Dawn has put a great deal of work into this project and while we still have a way to go yet, Dawn deserves our gratitude for getting it this far.
Finally, thank all of you who completed our Member Survey - 33 members (72%) completed the survey which is an excellent response rate. The results are generally supportive of the Club and how we conduct our affairs but did highlight the need for change. We are reviewing the results at the Board and will present the findings later in the month.
See you Wednesday
David
