At the end of my Rotary year, I thought I would provide a second club update on a busy six months for the Club since Christmas.
The Club has been strong through the country’s move to a red traffic light COVID setting and the Omicron wave and the Freedom occupation and riot at Parliament.
Since January we have:
Giving
• Provided $1,550 for Emergency Response Kits for the Tonga Volcano/tsunami
• Raised $3,380 for the Wellington Children’s Hospital Raffle
• Raised $5,610 for Ukrainian war refugees
• Donated $5,700 to the Rotary District Foundation ($100 per member)
• Raised $14,500 in support of 4 Goal Setters awards
• Held a Circa fund raising event for Wellington Homeless
Women’s Trust Service
• Took part in the Mary Potter street appeal
• Supported the Harbourside Market with a transition back to car parking assistance, and contribution to club funds.
• Collected food donations for the Wellington City Mission
• Developed a “Lifting the Lid” project to support schools
access to mental health councillors for students.
• Supported the SGCNZ Shakespeare National Festival
• Supported the Queen’ s Jubilee beacon lighting with
Wellington City Council
• Supported the Predator Free Wellington initiative with rat
trapping
Club/Fellowship
• Providing zoom options to attend club meeting for Club
members at home during COVID
• Held a second Club Forum
• Held a korero for new club members
• Offset the club’s carbon emissions with carbon credits
• Updated the club’s By Laws
• Set up a Rotary Club of Port Nicholson Book Club
• Set up a club member skills database
• Set up a club archive
• Perambulators: trips to butterfly creek and Makara Coast
• Car rally and lunch at Ngawi
• Social events: Panhead, Waitoa, Duke of Wellington,
Shepherd’s Arms, Little Penang and Yum Char Regal
restaurants
All on top of an annual program of wonderful speakers! Let’s keep up this great work and continue doing good!
