This week's speaker

Jack Rainey

How to give a meal that matters

Jack is the Wellington manager for Everybody Eats, a charity serving quality, three-course meals, prepared by volunteer chefs, from perfectly good food that would otherwise go to waste. Everybody Eats is a "pay-as-you-feel dining concept for everyone" operating from three restaurants, two in Auckland and one in Wellington, serving meals that feed bellies, not bins.

Howard's stunning architecture models
Last week Howard gave a talk at the Wellington Club on the meticulous architecture models he has made of Wellington buildngs. These are now on display on level four of the Wellington Club and are well worth a visit. Here is a couple snapshots of his work. So inspiring Howard.

Thoughts from President Jo
I was reflecting this morning (Friday) about the current NZ economic situation. To reflect on how lucky and privileged we all are to be in the situations we are in, how lucky we are to have the support of friends, family, and colleagues in our Rotary life, how lucky we are to have the support of 16 restaurants for The Grand Night Out, and so much more.
Rotoract
Antz received two resignations from Rotoractors last week, and unfortunately with no succession planning. He is going to work with Ayesha, whom many of you have met now, to take on the challenge of building Rotoract up. Ayesha has energy in bushels, so let’s put our support in behind Antz and the Youth committee in this endeavour.
End of year event 8 December - put in your diary now

Grand Night out -buy individual tickets or a table
Tickets for The Grand Night Out are on sale. You can buy individual tickets if you will not be buying a table, so don’t let that put you off. Four tables have been sold already!!

Did you know that 1 in 3 Kiwis will face a cancer diagnosis in their lifetimes?
That's a lot of people affected by cancer, and it clearly shows the growing demand for services funded by your support on Daffodil Day.
 We need your help.

Wish for a smile and babies with cleft palates
Matt admitted to being terrible at golf so on Fridays he works with babies with cleft palates as well as the charity Wish for a Smile.  The first "wish for a smile" patient in 2011 was Evan Hill who was on Campbell Live asking for help to fix his teeth and NZ raised $180,000.  Part of this funding was put aside for Evan and the rest  pledged to Wish for a Smile.  Since then over 440 Kiwi Kids have accessed donated orthodontic treatment which equates to over $3m.

Richard Westlake with aviation in his DNA
Richard’s pedigree/whakapapa includes his father Group Captain George Westlake of the RAF and aviation in general which he reckons is in his DNA. In 1969 he got his private pilot’s licence but failed shortly afterwards to get his driving licence. Luckily his pilot’s licence stood him in good stead and before long he was in the RAF flying Hawker Hunters which he described as like driving a Jaguar in the air – it just felt right.
