We had another great turnout on Wednesday morning and it was great to see Christopher Robertson and Juliet Palmer attend the meeting. Past District Governor Stuart Batty brought us up to date on the wonderful work Rotary World Community Services do in the Pacific.
The impact Rotary has had in the Pacific Islands and the support we provide in times of emergency is truly humbling. I, for one, never imagined Rotary has made such a significant contribution to the rebuilding the islands in times of need. This reinforces our commitment to support the Monte Carlo Night and raise funds for the ambulance to be sent to Samoa.
Mark Maloney the President of Rotary International for 2019/20 at the recent international convention in Hamburg outlined the need for Rotary to change, become more diverse and provide leadership opportunities for all Rotarians.
In support of this goal, the Rotary International board of directors made a commitment to increase the number of women in Rotary and in leadership positions to 30% by 2023. Currently, women internationally make up 23% of our membership, and represent, on average, 20% of leadership positions.
While we are doing a fair job with 33% of our membership and 50% of the leadership positions being held by women members, we clearly have to do better. On that note, Richard will be giving us a presentation next week on our membership data and the plans to grow our numbers.
On Wednesday I will presenting the results of the Membership Survey. 32 members completed the survey so we have a good representation of opinions. As mentioned previously 69% are satisfied with their membership and 90% of members are proud of their membership. However, we do need to focus on more involvement, ideas, social time and updating processes and rules.
Have a great week, yours in Rotary
David
