President
David Shackleton

As mentioned at our meetings, I had the opportunity to attend the Zone 8 Rotary Conference in Christchurch in September. Our very own Howard Tong was the Master of Ceremonies on the Friday and produced his usual virtuoso performance. Howard we are proud of you.
There were some excellent speakers at the conference from the International President Mark Maloney to Lianne Dalziel the Mayor of Christchurch. However, the one presentation that resonated most was entitled “So what about engagement, initiatives and diversity?” by Past District Governor Jessie Harman.
Jessie outlined 7 tips to improve Member Engagement. They were:
  1. Create a positive first impression
  2. Provide meaningful volunteer opportunities
  3. Communicate-using the right channels
  4. Make volunteering fun
  5. Recognise and appreciate members and volunteers
  6. Show what they have achieved
  7. Be part of something big
While none of the above are rocket science, they are a very useful checklist to ensure we are on the right course. To that end, I would really appreciate your feedback, ideas and suggestions on how we can improve. Please use the list above as a guide and let me know what we need to do to get better.
By understanding what is important to our members we can ensure the Club remains vibrant, focused and fun.

David

PS. To reinforce our commitment to the End Polio Now campaign could you please remember to wear your Polio Tee Shirt at the meeting and for all of October. Thank you.
