On Wednesday it was wonderful to welcome Jean, David, John and Nicci to our Club. I am sure each of our new members will add immeasurably to our culture, commitment to the community and service orientation. What is particularly pleasing is we have now broken the 50-member mark and, if my maths is correct, we have 52 members in total. Again, a big thank you to Richard and his Membership team as well as all the members who have helped us achieve this target.
On a global basis Rotary now has 1,217, 373 (including our 4) members, with 36, 023 Clubs in 220 countries. Closer to home we have 27,703 members in Australia and 7915 members in New Zealand. However, we cannot rest on our laurels and still need to grow, so if you know of anyone who may be interested in joining the best Rotary Club in Wellington, let Richard know.
Following up on the suggestions from the Bulletin survey, Jean will be starting a weekly profile on a member of our Club. This aim of the profile is for us to get to know our members better. We anticipate the first profile to be in the bulletin the week of the 17th of February and with 52 members we will be able to feature every member once in a year.
We all know the impact our Club makes on the Wellington community and Rotary International is no different, its community efforts focus on six key areas to maximise its impact. These areas encompass some of the world's most critical and widespread humanitarian needs, and has a proven track record of success in addressing them:
- Peace and conflict prevention/resolution
- Disease prevention and treatment
- Water and sanitation
- Maternal and child health
- Basic education and literacy
- Economic and community development.
Our Club community efforts aligns with several of the above, so it is good to know we are on track.
Look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday.
