This week's speaker
Shane Harmon
Sport and the Wellington economy
Shane was chief executive at Sky Sadium for 10.5 years before embarking on the consulting journey, taking his experience and applying it to sports, major events, entertainment, facilities and the public sector. He is also a director on Netball New Zealand
With Port Nicholson Rotary celebrating 35 years since its charter, it is a good time to remind members that we have an archive. Howard looks after this and is keen to receive any relevant articles, photos and details of our activities so they can be referred to in 35 years’ time. This includes minutes of meeting, recipients of awards, permambulators ramblings, Committee meetings, etc. If you want to view the archives simply ask Howard to give you access to Google Drive.
Remember too - check the About Us/Honours Board on our own website.
Our guest speaker on Wednesday reminded us about the wonderful young people who live and work amongst us. Hopefully Finn will tell his friends and colleagues about RYLA, or maybe apply for himself. Information has now come about RYLA, RYPEN, and the Rotary Science and Technology Forum. The Youth committee will keep us informed about these exciting events. Our club’s emphasis on young people continues.
Next week is our August Board meeting and we have some meaty items to discuss – the Grand Night Out, Walk For Mental Health around the Basin, and succession planning to name a few. I will report against these in my next report.

RYLA Youth Leadership Award
RYLA is a five day residential high energy programme for young leaders between the ages of 18-24. This exciting programme recognises and encourages young leaders to expand their skills by offering them intensive leadership experiences in a supportive environment and resources to empower them. Each year attracts cooperation from community and culture organisations, business, and community and national leaders. Port Nicholson has for decades supported RYLA by encouraging suitable applicants to apply. The Club fully funds each successful candidate. If you know of any suitable young person please refer them to the Application Process at Rotary District 9940 RYLA 2024 or to our Clubs website.
