                  What we value
Rotary was founded on principles that remain at the heart of the organisation today. These principles reflect our core values-integrity, diversity, service, leadership and fellowship.

Avenues of Service
We channel our commitment to service through the five Avenues of Service, which are the foundation of club activity. They are:
  • Club Service focuses on making clubs strong. A thriving Club is anchored by strong relationships and an active membership plan
  • Vocational service calls on all Rotarians to work with integrity and contribute their expertise to the problems and needs of society
  • Community Service encourages every Rotarian to find a way to improve the quality of life of people in our communities and to serve the public interest.
  • International service, we support this avenue by sponsoring or volunteering on international projects.
  • Youth Service recognises the importance of empowering youth and young professionals.
Our Club is very much aligned to these avenues, the Club is growing, and it was great to see two potential new members at the meeting on Wednesday. Hopefully both David Barnes and Jean Sloan (who has already volunteered to help with interviews) will join us in the new year.
This month, with the generous help from Harcourts, and some intrepid parkers, we have raised and will send some $2500 to help the local community on Samoa. Also, on the international front through Peter’s efforts in selling cases of wine, we have raised an additional $1400 to the End Polio Now campaign.

Locally, as the photos below show, through your kindness, we have donated some fantastic gifts, food and family products to the House of Grace. Also, Sue has sold about 24 Christmas Puddings and raised more funds for the Club.

Finally, thanks to contacts made by Tony, Grant Robertson Finance Minister and MP for Wellington will be our guest speaker on Wednesday. This will be an excellent way to end the year and we are expecting record attendance.

Have a great week

David

House of Grace

Heartfelt thanks to all members and partners who shopped and gave generously to support the residents of The House of Grace. The staff and volunteers were ‘blown away’ by all the gifts and very much appreciated our club’s support. They acknowledged the club with a lovely tin of Danish shortbread and two hand-made plaster Christmas tree decorations made by the residents. Their Christmas card reads: “We would like to thank you for your wonderful financial support this year. Your generosity is impacting the young Mums and babies.”

Encouraging girls into STEM subjects is important work

The importance of the club’s support for programmes like Innovative Young Minds was positively affirmed by our latest participant year eleven student Lucy McCrone who spoke to the club on Wednesday.

Following Lucy's account Sue Avison gave an overview of a trip to Silicon Valley with 12 STEM Alumnae.

Rotary Soft Shell Jackets
Opportunity to purchase

The Rotary soft shell jackets kept a few of us dry when we had a downpour at the Waitangi market carpark on Sunday 1 December plus they look great and are really comfortable to wear!

Following several requests, here is the web link if you wish to place an order http://rdusupplies.com.au/apparel/clothing/. Look for Ladies and Mens Geneva jackets and check the chest measurements for
S – 2XL sizes so you get the right fit. There’s sleeved (AUD$70.31) or vest (AUD59.49). Also, Polar Fleece options.

There’s a wide range of other Rotary branded clothing and accessories that you may be interested in buying. This is not a club order so you will need to make your own purchases.

Our club is frequently out in the community and it’s good to be recognised. Something to think about in the New Year with new members joining the club - we may be able to do a re-print of the Port Nich. club shirts “People like you and me” if there is sufficient interest. We also had a few people interested in the Rotary Volunteer Army
t-shirts that we could perhaps look at producing if there was sufficient demand.

Thanks

Bev

Buy your Christmas wine and HELP END POLIO

Fundraising opportunity
Through Peter Whittington District 9940 has been offered a fundraising opportunity for the End Polio campaign.

The offer is for a cancelled export order of very high quality Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.  Rotarians and friends can buy the wine at $144.00 per case (of 12).  $24.00 of that price will go to End Polio.  This is a quality wine, destined for some of the best restaurants in London and the wider UK.  There is a limited quantity available.

Port Nicholson is backing the project and have committed to take 10 cases:

  1. Peter Whittington will coordinate orders for Port Nicholson members.
  2. For delivery direct to your door, a minimum order of 10 cases is required, otherwise we will arrange for you to collect your order from a central point.
  3. Orders should be emailed to Peter Whittington, syrahnz@gmail.com,
  4. Orders close 15 December 2019.
  5. Once the order is received an invoice will be issued, and once payment is received there will be a credit of $24.00 per case issued, to End Polio.
If you have any other questions contact Peter by email or phone 021 778300.
