We've been doing fun things!!
Today a small group of Rotarians and guests fanged it up the line (while others simply drove), for a stunningly scenic cruise (or blur..?) to Ngawi, 'Dozer city, Crayfish Capital of the Country.
It was a lovely time, complete with sunshine, good company and good kai. A spot of retail therapy was squeezed in by some, Sue made a gorgeous new friend, and there were rumors of a certain Jag backfiring...? ..Surely not.
There were some real gems on the road, including an Amethyst, a Ruby and a Pearl, a Garnet and Sapphire, and a rather nice Harley. We hope more members will join us next time for a fun, different social outing with our club.
This week's Speaker
One of our own!!
Once again, COVID has conquered, and our speaker is unable to join us as planned. Thankfully, we have a very flexible team, and Lindsay Chitty has offered at late notice to step up and speak to the club. Thanks Lindsay!
In case you haven't received it, here is our latest district bulletin.
It includes an introduction to next District Governor Nominee Designate, information about the upcoming conference, and "Ethify", a socially-minded internet service provider.
9940 District Conference
You can now sign up for this online extravaganza!
Opening on Friday night with a virtual (BYO) cocktail party, the conference promises five and a half hours of interesting, inspiring, and challenging speakers. Registration is only $60 to cover technology costs.
As Omicron spreads, we hope you can still join us from you isolation chamber, where ever that may be.
Click this link or the one at the top of this bulletin to join us at 7am on Wednesday.
In response to the deepening humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, The Rotary Foundation has created an official channel for Rotary members around the world to contribute funds to support the relief efforts underway by Rotary districts and has designated its Disaster Response Fund as the main avenue for contributions. Follow this link to see what this means, or the above link to donate.
All funds need to be received into the Disaster Response Fund by 30 April 2022 in order to qualify for use in support of the Ukrainian relief efforts.
In case you missed it...
A small but strong group met at the Shackleton's for some delightful afternoon tea and some brainstorming. Eden reported back to the Club about this on Wednesday.
My Rotary memberships to date are Wellington South 1980 to 1984, Mount Lavinia (Colombo) Sri Lanka 1984-1988 (including as President 1985/6) and Port Nicholson since 2002, where for many years I have served on the Goal Setters committee. My working career was within the Bata Shoe Organisation, initially in UK, subsequently in East Africa and Asia as well as in New Zealand (1980-1984). My wife Betty and I have two married children and four grandchildren, three of which are university undergraduates.
From the president..
Rotary’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI)
In June 2021, the RI Board of Directors strengthened its commitment to making diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) a part of all aspects of Rotary’s culture. What we say and how we behave matter. Although free expression is important, we must take responsibility for how our words and actions may affect others. This is why Rotary has approved a new DEI Code of Conduct that reflects our core values.
Simply put, the DEI Code of Conduct asks Rotary members to:
Use respectful language
Be supportive
Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment
Celebrate diversity
