Fellow Members
As I mentioned this morning, we have another great opportunity to help the community. The Mary Potter Hospice is holding their annual street appeal between the 14th to16th of May 2026. We have been allocated Chaffers New World on the 14th between 7am and 6pm.
RCPN has supported this appeal for several years and again we are asking for volunteers. Our location is the New World at Chaffers Wharf. The spots are one hour in duration, starting at 7am through to the last shift which finishes at 6pm.
Mary Potter is a great cause and one that has touched us all at some time. If you can spare an hour for this great cause, please get back to me either by phone or email (see below) with the time you would like to volunteer. I have attached a sheet so you can see what the time slots look like.
Many thanks for contributing to this great cause \.

Our Speaker this week is Andrew Little Mayor of Wellington Wellington City Council Andrew Little (born 1965) is a long‑serving figure in New Zealand public life. Before entering Parliament, he led the Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union for over a decade. He became Leader of the Labour Party and Leader of the Opposition (2014–2017), stepping aside shortly before the 2017 election—a move widely credited with helping Labour’s resurgence under Jacinda Ardern. He then served as a senior Cabinet Minister (2017–2023) across portfolios including Justice, Health, Defence, and Treaty of Waitangi Negotiations. After Labour’s 2023 defeat, he left Parliament and later returned to public office as Mayor of Wellington in 2025. Reminder for those who haven't registered but want to check out the new walkway from Ngarunga to Petone with the fabulous Port Nic Perambulators! !! Just reopend the registration - sorry! Many thanks to Peter who let me know from afar! Perambulation - Te Ara Tupua The Petone to Nga Uranga walkway After a good chat, Jo and I thought a walk along the new walkway - Te Ara Tupua and then lunch at Gear Street Union Petone, might be a lovely idea. It is a flat easy walk and the scenery is great. Our plan is for us all to meet at Nga Uranga (after doing the walkway we both noted the spelling for Ngauranga) at 10am on Sunday 14 June. It is easy to access by train (Hutt line) or by bus from the city. There is also limited parking at Nga Uranga. The plan would be to walk to Petone - noting the views and information on the way and then walk to Gear Street Union for lunch. Those who wish to can walk back to Nga Uranga from Petone, or we can catch a train either to Nga Uranga or into Wellington. NZ Transport Waka Kotahi have published the following tips for using the pathway: • The path has 2 sides: one for pedestrians, and one for people cycling. The widths of the sides vary but generally the pedestrian space is about 1.8 metres wide, and the cycling space is about 3.5 metres wide.
• If you’re in a group, leave space around you so people can pass you – it's important to be courteous and share with care.
• If you’re cycling or using other types of wheels, slow down around the rest area and in path’s shared areas, which includes the bridge.
You’re welcome to bring your dog friend along, but you’ll need to keep them on their lead.
Please register your and friends or family by Friday 12 June 7am so Jo can let Gear Street Union know how many are coming.
Hopefully see loads of Rotarians there. Lou and Jo |

Let’s plant more trees! Sunday 12 July - 1pm to 3.30pm Please join us for our annual tree planting on Sunday 12 July at 1.00pm with The Friends of Tawa's Bush Reserves for our eighth year. We’ve already planted over 5200 trees in total! This year we will be in Caribbean Drive Reserve (Tawa) a bit further up than last year so there will be a bit of walking from where we park our cars to get to site. Tree planting regenerates our native Bush to provide habitat and food for the increasing numbers of native birds, provides walking areas for us all to enjoy, and helps slow down climate change. This is open to everyone including family and friends so please invite lots of people to help. Interact and Rotaract members are very welcome to join us so please let them know about this opportunity. You don’t have to be super fit to join. There are many jobs you can do such as: digging holes; planting trees, setting out trees for planting, picking up the tree packets for reusing, and / or contributing to the afternoon tea. If you would like to take part, please accept this invitation by Monday 22 June and provide your contact phone number and email address. Also advise details for family and friends attending. Lisa King is coordinating the Club’s participation and can be reached on 021 265 6220 or email lisaandmalkingnz@gmail. Lisa will be in touch with further details toward the end of June. Postponement date will be the following Sunday. See you there Lisa |
